I regularly attend the annual Pacific Symposium to garner the latest information and research in Acupuncture to benefit my Acupuncture Practice.
Oriental medicine is based on an energetic model rather than the biochemical model of Western Medicine. The Ancient Chinese recognized the vital energy, which they call Qi (pronounced "chee") in all life processes. These physicians discovered a system of Qi circulation throughout the human body, along with a particular physiological system of internal organs. Disease is considered the result of imbalances within the body, impairing the optimal functioning of these organ systems.
Pathways or meridians, which carry vital life energy or Qi, communicate with the surface points of the body at specific locations called acupuncture points. Each point has a predicable effect upon the Qi passing through it. Modern science has been able to measure the electrical charge at these points.
Acupuncture is very safe, with a very low occurrence of side effects. Acupuncture may alleviate many conditions rapidly, however some conditions that have arisen over the course of time may be relieved with slow steady progress.
